Sociology

Why choose Sociology?

Sociology investigates and tries to understand the social world and human behaviour within it.  Sociology is important for anyone who wants to be an informed and active citizen in today=s world.  It will help you to think systematically, critically and in a disciplined and informed way.  It will provide you with skills which employers and higher education regard as important.

You will be exploring and asking questions about the society in which you live and encouraged to re-examine many taken for granted ideas that you might have about the world.

Sociology can provide explanations for a number of current social issues such as:

Why between a third and a half of all marriages end in divorce.

Why more people than ever are joining religious sects.

Why girls are achieving better GCSE results than boys.

Why one in three men will have a criminal record by the age of 28.
