ICT GCE AS/A2

Why choose  ICT:

The world is littered with ICT as it has developed over the past quarter century much of it has been through stumbling from one mistake to another with different levels of success.  You will learn about ICT issues and aspects of managing ICT in a business type environment.  Of course you will learn about the parts that make up a computer and the interaction between its various parts.

Naturally you will use a variety of software both in learning to use the software package and employing software to produce particular assignments. Also, you will develop the skills of working as an independent worker.

What does the course involve?

It will involve reading, developing skills and acquisition of knowledge of the basic workings of a computer and research through contacts, made by you, in the world of work.

How is the course taught?

You will have a timetable of nine hours per fortnight in which you will cover three modules.  Two of the modules will be theoretically based with some practical work using software packages to build upon your prior experiences with IT.  The third module is practical and is where you will develop two projects that are examined.  Naturally there will be an expectation that you give a commitment to homework where you will research and develop further your project work.

How is the course assessed?

The course has two examination papers to examine your theoretical knowledge and two projects that are internally assessed and then externally moderated.

Why is it valuable?

ICT is now one of the largest players in the world of work and its use is growing daily therefore there will be demand for people that have a clear understanding of important issues to do with its use.  As this course is focussed towards management of ICT, with an understanding of the broader issues, you will be better placed to be considered for a place in higher education in this field or the work place.
