What
does the course involve?
The course consists of six units over
one year. There are three compulsory
units which develop skills knowledge and understanding that are common to a
range of occupations and professions in health, social care and early years services.
How
is this course taught?
The course is taught in a variety of
different ways. You will be given case
studies, have the opportunity to work shadow, meet and talk to guest
speakers. You will take part in group
activities and individual work. You will
make presentations to your group and to outside visitors.
Students will be expected to arrange
their own visits to care organisations to find out information for their
coursework.
You will have the opportunity to
achieve evidence for your key skills portfolio.
Your course will cover the provision of
health social care and early years services, promoting
health and well being, understanding personal development, child development,
dealing with hazards and emergencies and planning diets.
How
is the course assessed?
The course is assessed by one-third
external tests and two-thirds portfolio coursework. The course awards are pass, merit or
distinction.
An Intermediate GNVQ is equivalent to 4
GCSEs at grades A*- C.
Why
is it valuable?
The course will give you a
qualification which enables you to progress on to an Advanced
health and social care course and or take AS level courses. You may progress to
a more specialist care course or seek employment in care services.
You will develop the ability to work
with people, solve problems and take responsibility for your own learning. All of these are key skills that employers
want their employees to have. You learn
and use a variety of skills throughout the course these include learning to
collect and use data, communicating your findings in different ways and
developing the links between different parts of the subject.
Health and Social Care is an exciting,
topical course to study it will increase your understanding of how and why
people behave in particular ways. It
will give you a basic knowledge of early years, care and health services.
