BUSINESS
Why
choose Business?
Choose Business AS if you enjoy work or
business related issues. Business is the
course for you if you have an enquiring mind, as much of the course is based
around case studies. These you have to
interpret in the examinations.
NB: You do NOT have to have studied
Business at GCSE to take this course.
What
does the course involve?
This course is split into 6 units,
three for AS, three for A2 (the second year of A-level)
The units are:
For As 1. Business
structures, objectives and external influences.
2. Marketing and Production.
3. Financial Management.
For A2 4. Analysis and Decision Making.
5. Coursework (3,000 words)
6. Corporate Strategy
How
is this course taught?
You will study the latest theories on
Business and Marketing, how for instance social trends tie in with
business. To cover these and other
aspects, we use a full range of resources, including video, outside speakers,
visits to businesses, worksheets and, of course, the textbook prescribed by the
examination board.
How
is the course assessed?
All three AS units are assessed by
examination. Questions are structured
and one paper consists of an unseen case study.
At A2, assessment is through coursework
for unit 5 and examination in the other two units.
Why
is it valuable?
This Business course will prepare you
either:
to go on to
Higher Education to study for a Business or Marketing degree.
or
to go to your
first job interview with an ideal qualification on your CGV. Business introduces you to the contemporary
world of business via theory and practical everyday examples: it shows you what
occurs in the workplace.
