Why study BTEC Media?

The media studies teachers are aware of the growing interest in this area of both study and career, and want to provide students with a choice of pathways.

The BTEC First Diploma in Media will offer a different curriculum approach to the current AS and A levels on offer, but will provide the same exciting blend of analysis and practical production.

 

What will I study?

All students take the three core units:

 

Understanding the media- looking at genre, representation, media audiences and media institutions.

Research for media production *

Media skills and development *

 

(these are assessed through a final major project)

 

You then take three specialist units. The units on offer will be from:

 

Video production- making an original music video

Audio production- an extract from a radio show

Print production- sections of a magazine of local newspaper production

Advertising production- a promotion campaign for a new product

Photography techniques- commercial photography using both digital and black and white SLR techniques

Animation techniques- a 3 dimensional stop-motion, collage and cut-out and drawn techniques

A BTEC First prepares you for employment, and gives you a good grounding to go on to more advanced courses relevant to audio production, moving image, oublishing and print.
