BTEC First Diploma in Design

BTEC First Diplomas have been designed to provide the opportunity for students to achieve specialist work related qualifications in a variety of areas.  They have been developed to provide specific preparation for young people considering their future employment.

The BTEC First Diploma in Design focuses on the areas of graphic design, photography, 3D design, fashion, textiles and multi-media.  It allows students to experience each of these mediums and to get a taste of what eventual employment might entail in fields such as product design, web design, textile design and publication design.

The course is delivered by means of a number of different units, which take the form of assignments to be completed by each student.  Throughout the course you will receive guidance on completing the requirements of each unit.  These are assessed internally by your course tutors, but will also be externally moderated on completion of the course.  During your time on the course, you will be involved in planning and producing pieces of art work; in gathering the information that will contribute to the process and then in the analysis of your ideas and of the finished piece.

Choosing the BTEC First Diploma in Design will provide you with the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification.  This will be of great value. Whether you decide to then enter employment or progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design or the GCSE ‘A’ level in Art and Design.  Essentially, it will also give you the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques; personal qualities and attitude appropriate to achieving and satisfying working life.
