BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science

If you have enjoyed science at school but have not achieved the grades required to progress onto AS or AVCE courses then this course will be of interest to you- it is equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A* - C. The grade you are awarded is classified as Distinction, Merit, Pass or Not Passed..

You will be undertaking practical work in all three sciences. The course is entirely assessed by coursework, there are no exams. However, this is not an easy option.

The course is made up of six assignment-based units that allow you to build up a portfolio of your work. We will encourage and support you to arrange work experience within a Science-based workplace.

The six units are:

Unit 1: Science Technician at Work

Unit 2: Scientific Principles

Unit 3: The Science Workplace

Optional units may include:

Applications of Chemistry

Physical Sciences

Anatomy and Physiology of the human body

The BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science could enable you to progress onto other Advanced science related courses. The course could also allow you to progress into employment such as Laboratory Technician work or into some apprenticeships.
