What
does the course involve?
The course consists of 12 units over
two years. There are six compulsory
units which develop skills knowledge and understanding that are common to a
range of occupations and professions in health, social care and early years services.
How
is this course taught?
The course is taught in a variety of
different ways. You will be given case
studies, have the opportunity to work shadow, meet and talk to guest
speakers. You will take part in group
activities and individual work. You will
make presentations to your group and to outside visitors.
Students will be expected to arrange
their own visits to care organisations to find out information for their
coursework.
You will have the opportunity to
achieve evidence for your key skills portfolio.
How
is the course assessed?
The course is assessed by one-third
external tests and two-thirds portfolio coursework. The course awards cover the full range of
grades A -E.
You may be assessed for some elements
of the course on your placement.
Why

The course will give you a
qualification which enables you to progress into higher education or on to a
professional training course. You may
apply directly for employment in the health and social care sector.
An Advanced VCE (6 units) is the
equivalent of an Advanced GCE pass at grades A - E An Advanced double award is
equivalent to two Advanced GCE passes at grades A- E. An advanced Subsidiary VCE (units 1,5,2,) is equivalent to an AS level.
The Advanced VCE double award combines
well with most other AS and A2 subjects E.G. sociology, science subjects and
psychology.
You will develop the ability to work
with people, solve problems and take responsibility for your own learning. All of these are key skills that employers
want their employees to have
Health and Social Care is an exciting,
