What does this
course involve?
This course consists of six units, three for AS and three
for A2 (the second year of A-level). The units are:
For AS 1.
The Information Age

The Digital Economy
3.
The Knowledge Worker
For A2 4.Using
Database Software
5.
Managing ICT Projects
6.
Using Multimedia Software (to be confirmed)
How is this
course taught?
This is an applied course and much of the work is practical
in nature using real life contexts. The course is taught at Blyth
Jex using the new computer suites in the Business
Centre where a wide range of modern software and multimedia equipment is
available.
How is the
course assessed?
You will be assessed in units 3 and 4 by assignments set by
the examination board that ask you to carry out practical “hands on” tasks. You
will collect evidence of your work for the other units in an e-portfolio. This
is designed to be viewed on screen and will showcase your achievements. It will
be assessed by your teachers and moderated by the exam board.
Why is it
valuable?
Applied ICT will prepare you to go on to higher education to
study for a degree or BTEC Higher National Diploma in related subjects such as
ICT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Multimedia, Software Engineering,
Computer Networking, e-Business and Information Management. You could also go
on to work-based training such as IT user/Practioner NVQs. Alternatively Applied ICT is the ideal qualification
to have on your CV when applying for jobs in most areas of work.
